Andre De Grasse put down 10 seconds for Rio spot

Andre De Grasse ran his fastest 100 meters of this season to book his place at the Rio 2016 Olympics with pole vaulter Shawn Barber and high jumper Derek Drouin also won their events at the Canadian Olympic trials.

Andre, co-bronze medalist at the 2015 IAAF world championships, clocked 9.99 seconds to defeat Aaron Brown in the meeting at Edmonton, Alberta.

"Canada hasn't had two sub-10 sprinters for a long time, so I think me and him are going to do big things," Andre Said

“It’s perfect timing, we’re a month away from Rio, I’ve got a couple more races and I think I’ll be ready,” Andre Added

The sprinters will meet again in the 200 meters on Sunday, the concluding day of the trials.

Shawn achieved 5.61 meters on his third trying to win the pole vault.

Derek got the Olympic qualifying standard in the high jump by clearing 2.30 meters.
